Advertising Guidelines & Specifications

Welcome to Man of Many’s comprehensive guide for advertising. This section provides all the necessary information for creating and submitting effective ads, including technical specifications and submission guidelines. Follow these instructions to ensure your campaign is set up for success and runs smoothly.

Ad Submission Guidelines

Submission Timeline: Banner ads and creatives must be submitted at least five days before the campaign start for setup and testing in Google Ads Manager. Late submissions may delay the campaign launch.

Preferred Formats: We preferr ‘In-Red’ Tags but also accept third-party JavaScript, DoubleClick Tags, HTML Zips, images, JPEGs, and GIFs.

Click-Through URL: Provide an exact click-through URL for all creative (including HTML5) for proper testing.

Active Redirects: All 3rd party redirects must be active upon submission for effective testing. Ad serving charges are the advertiser’s or agency’s responsibility.

Compliance: Our ad formats comply with IAB guidelines and Google Ads Manager standards for HTML5 creative.

File Size: We recommend keeping creative file sizes minimal for better user experience and faster loading. Flash is not accepted.

Sponsored Content Process:

  • Complete the campaign briefing document provided by Man of Many.
  • We require a two-week lead time to create the content.
  • Content will be submitted to you for feedback through a Word document and a website preview.
  • Provide your feedback within 48 hours, with up to two rounds of feedback permitted.
  • We will incorporate your feedback and finalise the content.
  • The article and other campaign deliverables will be published.
  • The content will be amplified across various channels, including EDM, social media, and our website, for a period of three to four weeks.
  • A comprehensive post-campaign performance report will be provided, including links, metrics, and insights.

Image Requirements:

  • Provide links to hi-res product & lifestyle images on Dropbox or Google Drive.
  • Minimum image resolution: 1500 x 1000 px (landscape preferred).
  • No imagery with text or logos can be used.
 

Approve @manofmany to tag the brand on Facebook and/or Instagram as Branded Partner prior to the campaign launch. Instagram approval is only required for Instagram Posts, not stories. Facebook approval is required for all campaigns.

Universal Assets Required

Notes:

  • HTML5 creative must be hosted by approved HTML5 vendors. Man of Many will not host HTML5 assets directly.
  • A HTML5 Standard banner is defined as a basic banner with a single click-through and no advanced features.
  • A HTML5 Rich banner is defined as any banner that includes expand functionality, video, multiple click-throughs, or advanced features.
  • The Max File Size includes all ad assets such as HTML, CSS, JS, and images. Shared libraries hosted by approved 3rd Party Vendors are not included in the Max File Size. Please contact your vendor representative for a list of supported libraries.
  • A backup image is required for unsupported environments.

Ad Rules:

  • All rich media ad units must be polite loaded (after the parent page content).
  • Audio content must be triggered on click initiation only.
  • Ad creative must be clear and recognisable, with legible text. Unclear, blurry, or unrecognisable ads are not allowed.

Animation Rules:

  • Non-user initiated animation max length: 15 seconds.
  • Non-user initiated video max length: 30 seconds.
  • Non-user initiated combined animation and video max length: 30 seconds.
  • No continuous looping permitted.
  • Creative must not have fast animation or strobing effects.
  • 20 per cent average CPU usage accepted; spikes over 70 per cent for longer than two seconds will be rejected.

Best Practices:

  • It is recommended that additional content such as CSS, JS, images, etc. be politely loaded, including shared libraries.
  • Use CSS animations where possible.
  • In your JavaScript, use the requestAnimationFrame method instead of setInterval(); or setTimeout().
  • To reduce file sizes, consider using:
    • HTML, JS, & CSS code minifiers.
    • Sprites, SVG, or compressing images using ‘Save for Web’.
    • Web fonts. Subsetting fonts to use only the characters the creative is using.

Creative Acceptance Policy

  • Man of Many reserves the right to remove from rotation or request the removal/revision of any creative that is deemed unsuitable for the users of our sites.
  • Man of Many may, at its absolute discretion, refuse to publish any advertisement without giving any reason. In case of refusal, no charge to the advertiser shall be incurred.
  • Man of Many reserves the right to reject/remove any creative from rotation that does not meet our specifications, contravenes any of these guidelines, or adversely affects the rendering of our site, other ad placements, or user experience.
  • Creative must meet technical specifications and function as expected.
  • The nature of the creative must not be offensive (such as sexually explicit) or controversial (such as politically charged).

The Ad Operations team reviews every direct-sold creative before it is published to the site and ensures both requirements are met. Occasionally, sites may raise concerns about ads that don’t meet aesthetic standards or the quality of design, which is not suitable to serve to users, particularly paid subscribers. Man of Many’s Terms and Conditions state that each advertisement submitted for publication is subject to the publisher’s approval. It is therefore ‘acceptable’ for Man of Many to reject creative for any reason.

Cancellation Deadlines

Cancellation of any advertisement or campaign must be received in writing no later than 21 days prior to the commencement of a campaign to receive a 100 per cent refund. Any cancellations made after this time will be subject to a minimum cancellation fee of 100 per cent of the total cost of the entire campaign. Campaigns cancelled at the request of the Advertiser after the campaign has commenced or integrated production work has begun will not be entitled to a refund of any unused portion of the campaign.

Third-Party Ad Serving Guidelines

  • All third-party redirects must be live when submitted, to enable thorough testing before creatives go live. All third-party ad serving charges are the responsibility of the advertiser or agency.
  • All third-party ad served tags and trackers are to be supplied without any GDPR consent macros. Any reporting discrepancies or delivery issues as a result of tags incorrectly supplied with GDPR consent macros are the responsibility of the advertiser or agency.
  • Should you wish to utilise a vendor not listed within the individual ad spec pages, please contact your Campaign Manager as early as possible to arrange testing/certification and provide detailed publisher trafficking instructions. Vendors who do not provide the ability for Man of Many to track clicks through DFP will not be certified.
  • Man of Many reserves the right to remove any creative from rotation that does not meet our specifications, contravenes any of these guidelines, or adversely affects the rendering of our site, other ad placements, or user experience.
  • The setting of third or fourth-party cookies on Man of Many’s sites for re-targeting or any other user tracking purposes is not permitted without prior approval from Man of Many. Creatives featuring unauthorised connections to external servers for the purposes of user tracking will be removed from rotation. Creatives can be returned to rotation once unauthorised connections have been removed.
